The county government of West Pokot is planning to create five administrative villages in each of the 20 wards so as to take county administration to the grass roots level.
This will enable residents to access county services easily, and even improve the security of the County.
In a meeting held at Kapenguria involving Governor Simon Kachapin, members of the county assembly, Sub County and ward administrators and public service board, the leaders agreed the villages will be headed by village administrators who will be reporting to the ward administrators.
The village administrators will be mandated to coordinate county government functions at the village level and cooperate with chiefs when dealing with insecurity.
“Our county has been facing insecurity issues. We are trying our best to end the perennial conflicts, that’s why we need to have the village administrators to help us establish peace,” said Kachapin.
The West Pokot county village units delineation bill 2016 is expected to be tabled in the county assembly for further deliberations.
Lelan ward representative Paul Yaraki welcomed the proposal saying that it will create job opportunities and facilitate administration in the villages.
“My people will be employed as village elders, secretaries and other positions. This will enable residents to realize the fruits of devolution,” said Yaraki.
