Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged the National Assembly to take disciplinary action against Cabinet Secretaries who are politicking. Speaking at parliament buildings to the press on Monday, the Senator cited a fund drive last week on Friday in Kirinyaga, which brought together several leaders including Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Transport CS James Macharia, PS Karanja Kibicho, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, COTU boss Francis Atwoli, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed among other leaders.
CS Matiang’i has faced the bulk of criticisms from leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who have alleged his involvement in the country’s political scene. Senator Cherargei said only president Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto should play the political roles in Cabinet. “If these Cabinet Secretaries want to do politics, they should just resign and even some of them even can’t be elected as even chairmen of cattle dips in their villages, so they should respect elected leaders,” he said.
He said CS Matiang’i has fashioned himself as a team leader of Kieleweke, “As we talk he is now handling security as an issue of stick and carrot, in that, if you oppose any of his agenda or his PS, he orders an arbitrary arrest,” said the Nandi Senator. He further faulted the CS inability to reach West Pokot to visit the landslide victims, despite his capacity to do so.
