Bungoma Senator David Wakoli has continued to make strides in advocating for the rights and welfare of farmers across Kenya. In a move aimed at transforming the sugar industry, government-owned sugar factories are set to be leased to improve efficiency, ensuring that farmers, workers, and all stakeholders are paid promptly—addressing a long-standing concern in the sector.
Senator Wakoli, a vocal supporter of the farming community, emphasized the need for political leaders to rally behind farmers and ensure they receive full value for their produce while in Mungore village, Khasoko Ward, in Bumula Constituency during the burial service of Mama Rosa Makhandia. His commitment to enhancing the agricultural sector, especially for sugarcane growers, is evident in his consistent advocacy for policies that directly benefit them.

As the author of the Sugar Law, Senator Wakoli has played a pivotal role in reinvigorating the Kenya Sugar Board, bringing a new wave of governance that includes elective positions within the board. These elected officials will serve as the voice of farmers, ensuring their interests are well represented. With campaigns for these positions currently underway, the upcoming elections hold the promise of a more farmer-centered approach to the sugar industry.
