The electoral body IEBC has cleared current Senator George Khaniri to vie for the same seat on Amani National Congress (ANC) party. The candidate arrived and presented his papers at Chavakali High school accompanied by his wife Eunice Khaniri and supporters at 9.30 am before being cleared by the electoral commission.
The County returning officer Sarah Ogaro said the candidate had fulfilled all the requirements needed by the agency and therefore was given a green light to run for the seat.
After being cleared, the Senator and his scores of supporters thronged Chavakali-Kapsabet road to escort him to his home in Jeptulu before he addressed the locals.
Khaniri said his bid for the seat is unstoppable and he will ensure that the devolved units will be beneficial to Kenyans.
The Senator added that he is going for the last term as the area Senator and appealed to the locals to vote him for the second time to fulfil his development agenda. “I only need five years to finish my job as Senator. After that I will go for the highest seat (Presidency) after you give me your full backing,” said Khaniri.
At the same time, he criticized the Jubilee government of being responsible for runaway corruption and increased poverty among Kenyans due to their misrule and low spirit to fight corruption.
“Our economy has been ruined due to various massive fraud and increased borrowing which has not been utilized for the benefit of Kenyans,” said Khaniri.
He said the Jubilee government has been hit by many scandals than any other previous regimes in the country and called on its administration to pave way for new leadership.
