Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has urged the national government to consider locking down Nairobi County for 14 days to curb the spread of Covid-19. Addressing the press in Kakamega, Malala said that Nairobi hosts 95% of the already recorded cases in the country and allowing free movement of Kenyans in and out of the city is risky to Kenyans’ lives.
He urged the President to completely block the movement of people in the capital city before the number of infections rise. He argued that Kenya is not yet ready to handle a large mass of cases and thus prevention is key. He further urged Governors to ensure that all those who have arrived from the the city recently are isolated and tested for the disease, calling upon the residents to help identify those who’ve recently arrived to their respective Counties.
