West Pokot County is close to completing the setting aside of a 300 bed isolation facility. Governor John Lonyangapuo has indicated that the process of converting the County School of Government into a 300 bed isolation unit is at an advanced stage.
“Procurement processes for the equipment and supplies of this facility have been initiated including 6 ICU beds and a further 3 ventilators. The County already has two CPAP ventilators. After the supply and installation of these, the County shall have 6 ICU units and 5 ventilators,” he said.
With increasing Covid-19 cases, he has urged residents to observe the public health measures for the containment of the virus.
He explained that the County government has strengthened Coronavirus containment measures to limit the spread of the disease in the community. “The surge of the infections has continued nationally and I would like to remind the people of West Pokot that every person is at a risk of contracting Covid-19,” he said.
“No one is immune to the disease. Let us all therefore endeavor to fully adhere to the COVID-19 containment protocols as set out by the ministry of health now that transmission is at community level.”
County Health Director for medical services Dr. Nobert Abuya said the first Covid-19 patient in West Pokot is admitted at Kapenguria County referral hospital and is stable and asymptomatic.
