FKF Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks have been handed a walkover after cash-strapped Shabana FC failed to show up for a league match that was slated for Wednesday 14 October at the Nairobi City Stadium.
Shabana is facing financial problems that have seen players and the technical bench go for eight months without pay, a situation that has coincided with the club’s poor performance in the league.
The team had not left Kisii for Nairobi by Tuesday 13 October evening putting the game on the balance.
On Wednesday they did not show up at Nairobi City Stadium for the match against Sharks that was set to kick off at 1000 hrs. The match officials were left with no option but to award Mike Amenga’s charges three points and two goals.
In this season alone, it is the 2nd time that financial problems have forced the team to give a walkover.
In September 2015 they failed to travel to Mombasa for their match against Modern Coast Rangers forcing match officials to award the game to Rangers.
