Residents of Nasianda in Likuyani Sub County have been left perplexed after unknown people stole a heifer from one of the residents in Machimbo village and drove it into an abandoned compound in Bondeni village where they killed it by hitting it on the head using a blunt object and stabbing it’s throat before leaving the carcass lying in between graves in the compound.

According to Protus Wanyonyi, he discovered his cow missing at about 9:55pm on Sunday with the efforts to search for it through the night bearing no fruits.

“I woke up my brother and children and tried to trace hoof prints which led towards the Nasianda dam where they faded away leaving us gazing in the darkness,” said Mr. Wanyonyi.

He said after a long unsuccessful night search they retired to bed and woke up early Monday morning and continued with the search before he received a call from one of his boda boda friend informing him of a cow that had been killed and it’s carcass left in an abandoned compound in Bondeni village.

“I rushed here and found my cow lying in between graves. It had been stabbed in the throat with injuries on the head indicating it was hit with a blunt object,” explained Wanyonyi adding that he didn’t know the motive behind the incident.

Residents have decried increased cases of insecurities in the area with the thieves targeting livestock ranging from chicken to cows.

They have appealed to security apparatus to beef up patrol in the area and assure them security together with their property.

“We have lost thousands of chicken and dozens of cows to thieves who steal and slaughter our cows only leaving behind heads, intestines, skins and hooves,” they lamented.

Addressing the resident at the scene, Kongoni location chief Peter Lugano who was accompanied by his assistant Martha Juma assured them security disclosing that three suspects were already in police custody at Nangili police station.

“We have managed to arrest two suspects who are helping us with investigations following this incident and others that have been happening within the location,” said the chief.
