Maize famers in Sirisia Constituency in Bungoma County are set to benefit from the cereals store that will be put up at Tulienge in Lwandanyi Ward.

Speaking at the site during official launching of the project, the KESSP project coordinator in Western region Dr. Caro Kamau said the project will cost Kshs 40M to be completed.

“I’m glad we are here today to launch this wonderful project, I know maize famers in this region have waited for so long but I want to assure you within six months everything will be complete,” she said.

She said there will be three teams that will represent famers in the management and supervision of the project, these will include Ward administrators from Lwandanyi and Malakisi/South Kulisiru Wards, area Chiefs, Ward agricultural officers and faith based organizations.

KESSP finance manager Mr. Nyakundi Mogere said the project will tackle the problems faced by maize famers who have been suffering under the hands of middlemen who have dropped the maize price.

Mogere urged more famers to come out in large numbers and register with the organization to get support and boost maize farming in the region.

“Those famers who have not yet registered kindly we still have opportunity, we want to help you improve your farming so that we make use of the store once it is complete,” he said.

Lwandanyi ward MCA Mr. Tonny Khoya Baraza attributed the effort by the KESSP towards people of Sirisia, saying the project will empower both small and large scale famers.

Baraza however urged the contractor to do a standard work and consider the locals in job employment.
