Sirisia residents get aid from County & Red Cross
SIRISIA SUB-COUNTY. Over 100 families who were rendered homeless by rains and strong wind that wrecked havoc in the area a few days ago have reason to smile again after the county government of Bungoma and the Kenya Red Cross Society Bungoma branch came to their aid by donating humanitarian goods to them.
The delegation that was led by Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka and Kenya Red Cross Bungoma branch secretary Dr. Mohammed Amin donated 2000 iron sheets to the 128 affected families whose houses were demolished by the heavy rains.
“I was here when you people were hit by this disaster and I promised that I will come back today and here I have come with what my government has managed to donate to you so that you can also resume your normal lives after suffering for several days in the cold without food and other basic needs,” said governor Lusaka.
He said that as a leader he had no other business but to stand with his people in time of disaster and in time of happiness.
The county government donated 128 mattresses, 128 blankets, 264 packets of maize meal, 264 packets of Baking flour famously known as Unga Ngano while Red Cross donated 100 kitchen sets, 100 mosquito nets and 100 collapsible jerry cans and soap.
The governor added that there are 12 casualties in Malinda who were to receive 249 iron sheets, Kasiamo had 10 casualties hence received 155 iron sheets, Wekelekha had casualties 24 that received 469 basing on the initial assessment done by officers from Red Cross and the county government.
Other areas that were affected included Sirisia, Yabeko and Sibanga that received 698, 382 and 788 iron sheets respectively to the 31, 18 and 33 victims that were affected respectively in the mentioned areas.
Lusaka however urged the residents to plant trees that can help curb some of such calamities that caused havoc in the area.
“We have donated all these as a county so that each of you can at least go back to your homes and start off your lives again but i also urge you to plant more trees in your homes to avoid such calamities,” said Lusaka.
Local leaders including area member of county assembly Everline Mutiembu and newly elected chair of Kenya Red Cross Bungoma Branch Serah Wanyonyi lauded the governor’s response to the plight of the residents and vowed to support his government and his bid to retain the seat in next year’s general elections.
