Pupils and teachers from different schools in Sitikho ward in Webuye West constituency have received reusable masks from area MCA Grace Sundukwa. Speaking at Kakimanyi Friends primary School where she distributed over 1,000 masks, Grace Sundukwa said she realized that many students don’t have masks and many parents can only afford one which can’t take them through the whole term.
She said masks will be distributed to all the schools in her ward and urged other stakeholders to join the initiative and support needy students. She lauded parents who responded well to the reopening of schools by ensuring their children attend classes, “I’m proud that parents are now prioritizing education. All the schools I’ve visited to distribute masks and sanitizers are full unlike other years, when attendance was poor.”
She appealed to Bungoma Finance CEC to prepare a supplementary budget and have it presented to MCAs in the assembly, to cater for bursaries for needy students. She said it’s long overdue and it was meant to be discussed before the Christmas holiday, noting that it will be the first order of business once sittings resume in the County assembly.
Some teachers from various schools among them Kakimanyi, Bukunjangabo and Mukite lauded the area MCA, saying many of the pupils come from humble backgrounds and couldn’t afford masks. However, some called for the construction of more classes and provision of desks to enable the observance of the social distancing directive.
