As KCPE exams came to a close on Thursday, six pregnancy cases among candidates were reported in Trans Nzoia County. Speaking to the press, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang said investigations will be done and he promised to take action against men who impregnated the minors.
Ojwang said cases of children being defiled or impregnated have increased in Trans Nzoia, with suspects walking scot-free. He also shifted the blame to some parents who use the state of their pregnant children to extort money form the suspects, alter on, marrying their children off, leaving them helpless.
He added that his office has received several complaints from a
section of the public and he warned parents to desist from having Kangaroo courts, which present the opportunity to solicit for money. “We are aware of parents who take advantage of their pregnant daughters’ conditions in kangaroo courts to profit.”
The County Commissioner however appealed to parents to take care of
their children during this festive season by giving them all the
necessary advice as well as help needed from them.
He said most parents are fond of sending their children to their
relatives instead of sitting with them at their homes and learn their
behavioral changes so that they correct them claiming some parents have
absconded their disciplinary duties.
