Several people have been trapped after a six-storey building collapsed on Friday morning in Tassia estate, Embakasi. Rescue operations are currently ongoing. According to the regional police commander Philip Ndolo, rescue operations are underway, with the number of people trapped yet to be verified.
One of the residents at the scene said the building wasn’t in good condition and that several people had been rescued so far. Another resident faulted officials who are supposed to check the viability of houses., saying they take bribes instead of doing their duties. The rescue operations haven’t been favored by the weather either, with the aftermath of the heavy rainfall still clear.
By Friday evening, four people had been confirmed dead, while 29 were rescued and taken to Mama Lucy hospital and Kenyatta hospital for treatment.
