A sombre mood engulfed the burial of slain Kibabii university student Sebastian Simiyu Wanjala at Maliki, Namanjalala location in Kapomboi ward, Trans Nzoia County. The deceased was shot dead at their home by police officers who were on an illicit brew crackdown.
During his burial on Tuesday, mourners condemned his killing, and said action should be taken against the rogue police officers. According to a postmortem report seen and read at the funeral by the deceased’s cousin Michael Wekesa, he was shot on the spine and his kidney, and his hand was also injured in the incident.

The late Wanjala’s parents, his father Fredrick Wanjala and mother Jackline Namalwa lauded their son, saying he was a beacon of hope for the family and worked hard whether in school or their farm. They condemned his brutal killing and called for immediate action to be taken.
Leaders present led by area MCA Ben Wanjala Mlipuko and Keiyo MCA Emmanuel Waswa joined others calling for stern action to be taken against the officers culpable. They faulted security officers for failing to maintain peace and order in the area and instead causing harmony to residents. They’ve demanded a total overhaul of the security system, saying officers are sleeping on the job.
