Social media group visits orphans in Kimilili
Thirty orphans at Gustaff Children’s home in Kimilili sub county were jubilant on Easter Monday after Kimilili VIPs’ a social media group decided to visit the home to celebrate with them donating foodstuff, clothes as well as stationery for their education.
In an exclusive interview with West media the group administrator Anaclet Tenge said the group members decided to contribute some money to share with the less fortunate in the society and decided to buy foodstuff and other valuables for the children.
He disclosed that the group whose membership is both on facebook and whatsapp usually during holidays comes together to sponsor an initiative that will benefit the community saying they decided to help the orphans at Gustaff to also celebrate Easter in style same as other privileged members of the society.
His sentiments were echoed by his fellow administrator Job Chris Wanjala who said social media as an aggressive platform can be positively used to change the lives of people in the society saying people should not only focus on using it to propagate matters that are not useful to the society.
He added that social media can be avenues of uniting people to enable them start an initiative that will be able to transform the community saying through guidance and motivation the youths can be empowered to provide good leadership in the society.
Another member of the group Agrrey Mabukha said as youths they have an opportunity of utilizing their time well saying despite many of them not being employed they can be able to brainstorm through social media and start up such initiatives which will in the end open up their networks to be able to get job opportunities.
However he called upon the children at the orphanage not to give up in life saying they will be visiting them once in a while to encourage them to take their studies seriously in life saying it is the only avenue that will help them achieve in life.
On her part Dorcas Khaoma challenged ladies in the society to also join such groups saying it can provide them an opportunity to interact with other members of the society and also encouraged them to use the opportunity to sell their political agenda as many of them are eyeing political seats.
Kevin Nyongesa the children’s home manager thanked the group for their generous gesture to the children saying it was a perfect encouragement and celebration this Easter season saying the orphans needs kind hearted people to take care of them.
He added that a number of the children are pursuing their high school education at schools within the sub county as well as outside saying they need to be helped so as to achieve their dreams in life as they have the potential of achieving.
Rael Masita one of the orphans at the children’s home also thanked the donors for their generous deed saying they will reciprocate by working hard in school.
