A dark cloud has engulfed Chepkoiywo village in Sitatunga, Cherangany sub county following the death of two people under sad circumstances. A 23 year old man hacked his uncle to death, prompting residents to apprehend and lynch him.
Julius Wanundu, a resident of Matisi area in Saboti sub county, hacked his uncle, Patrick Simiyu Membo, at his house on Tuesday evening following a disagreement. Trouble started when Julius got into a scuffle with another man, identified as an M-Kopa agent, at his uncle’s house. The uncle tried to separate the two, and the agent managed to run away, and the culprit turned on him, attacking him with crude weapons and a plough.
According to the deceased’s widow Violet Barasa, the culprit arrived at their home and conversed with the family members but he wasn’t sober and couldn’t speak properly. She described how he asked for fare for his return journey back to Matisi. Even after being given fare, he didn’t go, opting to loiter around in the area, prior to the murder.
“Julius asked for fare and I gave him, then I headed to the posho mill. Before arriving at the mill, my neighbour told me a fight had ensued at my home and I rushed back, only to find my husband already killed,” she said.
Residents of the area led by village elder Wilson Sang condemned the killing, lamenting the damage caused by an outsider who doesn’t hail from the area. They said they’ve never witnessed such cases. Sitatunga MCA Daniel Kaburu also condemned the incident and urged police officers to conduct thorough investigations over the same.
