The Iteso community in Uganda are expected to boast of two top government officials should deputy speaker Mrs. Annita Annet Among be appointed speaker of the Ugandan parliament following the demise of Jacob Oulanya who succumbed to cancer two days ago at a US hospital.
Mrs. Among has already stepped down her deputy role to position herself in readiness to contest the speaker position.
She is set to be nominated for the position of speaker of parliament at the National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission Headquarters on Tuesday, 22nd March 2022 at 11am East African Time.
Among ,who has served as deputy speaker for 9 months, resolved together with her team on Monday) to take a swipe for the speaker position.
If she wins the race, she will be the third in command in the Ugandan hierarchy of command after His Excellency Yoweri Museveni and Vice President, Her excellency Jessica Allupo ( Teso).
The Iteso, both in Kenya and Uganda enjoy similar traditional character traits. They are culturally united under one leader, the King of the Iteso community.
