Jose Mourinho has been sacked as head coach of Tottenham, less than a week before Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
The London based club confirmed that the 58 years old manager has left the club after guiding Spurs to the Carabao final which is set to take place on Sunday at Wembley stadium.
Mourinho led the North Londoners to finishing sixth in the English Premier League last season having replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November last year, signing a deal until the end of the 2023 season.
The club confirmed Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra had all been relieved of their duties, with Ryan Mason – just 29 – taking charge of training on Monday.
They are currently seventh, having picked up two points from their past three league games, and were knocked out of the Europa League in March.
On Sunday, Tottenham were one of six Premier League clubs to announce they were joining a new European Super League.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has applauded Mourinho as a resilient and a true professional during their time together. “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club; Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.” “On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.
“He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”
Mourinho’s last game in charge was a 2-2 league draw at Everton on Friday.
