It was joy and jubilation at St Brigid’s Girls High School Kiminini after their candidate, Laura Chelangat Ruto, emerged the 10th KCSE candidate nationally and the best in Trans Nzoia County.
Chelangat, 17, scored an A of 84 points, and she has revealed that she dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon. She scored plain As in English, Kiswahili, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, C.R.E, Business Studies and an A- in Biology.
An excited Chelangat celebrated her victory and attributed her performance on hard work and determination. “I’m extremely excited about my performance. I expected a good result and am grateful for the support from my teacher and parents,” she said.
She said she’ll pursue a Medicine course, “I have always dreamed of becoming a surgeon, that’s why I worked hard to secure good grades in the Science subjects.”
Her father, Philip Ruto, was filled with joy after Education CS Prof. George Magoha announced the results. The retired books saleman described his daughter as highly disciplined and focused. “The results is a gift from God, and as a family we are humbled by her performance,” he said “She does her things confidently.’’
Teachers and parents burst into songs and dances to celebrate Chelangat’s victory.
Following her exemplary performance there were celebrations at the
school just a stone throw away from Kiminini Township as Principal
Mrs. Inviolata Lokorito led teachers and residents to usher in the good results. “We are happy and joyful. We are grateful to God that we have one of our own girls ranked among the top ten students in the country,” she said.
Lokorito said she is proud of Chelangat’s excellent results and that she has maintained her impressive performances since she joined Form One.
