St Joseph’s Chepterit girls high school in Nandi County is once again on the spot after an alleged arson case when another dormitory was gutted by fire on Thursday evening. The incident happened around 6.00 pm when students had gone for supper. This comes barely two days after a dormitory was gutted down and property was destroyed. However, the fire was contained this time around and some property was salvaged after a quick response by the County fire brigade and security officers.
Confirming the incident, Nandi Central police boss Stephen Obara said the dormitory was partially burnt down and some of the students’ belongings like mattresses were destroyed. He said whereas the first incident was suspected to be caused by an electric fault, the second case may have been an attempted arson.
Security has been heightened in the school and the school management will today meet to deliberate on the way forward and make vital decisions including whether the school should be closed to pave way for thorough investigations.
