Starehe MP Charles Njagua will spend one more night at the Kileleshwa police station as he awaits his bail ruling to be made on Friday. The MP, popularly known as Jaguar was arrested on Wednesday outside parliament buildings after he made controversial remarks concerning foreigners who have businesses in Nairobi.
In a widely shared video, he is heard saying businesses in Nairobi have been taken over by foreigners, including Pakistanis, Chinese, and traders from neighbouring nations Uganda and Tanzania. “Now we say enough is enough, we give them 24 hours if they aren’t ejected, we will eject them and beat them, we don’t fear them!”
He was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, and the magistrate Sinkiyan Tobiko said the ruling will be made on Friday, with the prosecution asking for him to be detained for 14 days to allow for completion of investigations.
The government had already distanced itself from the MP’s comments saying that such comments are unfortunate and have no place in today’s globalized environment.
