A form one female student at Forestal Secondary School in Lugari Sub County died on spot after she was knocked by a speeding vehicle while on way to school near Turbo trading centre along the busy Eldoret-Webuye highway on Wednesday morning.
Confirming the incident, Lugari OCPD, Bernard Macharia said the deceased aged 16, with a friend who escaped with serious injuries, were on a motorbike heading to school when the tragedy struck.
“The girl died on the spot while her colleague survived with serious injuries,” said Macharia, adding that the unidentified vehicle, which hit the boda boda motorbike from behind, sped off towards Webuye direction.

The OCPD said the injured student was rescued and rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where deceased body was also transferred.
“However, the boda boda rider escaped without any injuries,” added Macharia.
The sub county police boss has warned boda boda riders against abusing traffic rules, saying stern actions will be taken against those violating the same in order to restore sanity on roads.
“Most of boda boda riders fail to observe simple rules like refusing to pave way for overtaking vehicles on middle of the road and carrying more than one passenger,” he added.
Police officers in conjunction with their colleagues from other security agencies in the area are currently on ground hunting the hit and run driver and vehicle.
