A second year student taking Fabrication and Welding course at Matili Technical Training Institute died at the Kimilili sub district hospital while undergoing treatment after allegedly taking poison over a disagreement with his college mate lover.
The council of students chairman Douglas Shiundu said the late identified as Antony Wanjala was a jovial student and they were dumbfounded to find out that he had committed suicide saying he never showed any signs of frustrations.
He added that the police have since launched their investigations to ascertain the true cause of the death saying as colleagues they are deeply saddened by the death of the boy and called upon the administration to offer more guiding and counseling sessions to the students to avoid such disasters in future.
The body has since been taken to Dreamland Hospital morgue to await a post mortem exercise to be carried out later on.
One of the students at the institution Caleb Wanyonyi echoed the chairman’s sentiments saying it will be better for the college to have a vibrant guiding and counseling department which will engage the students on a regular basis to help identify their problems and how to take care of them.
He further called upon his fellow students not to risk committing suicide saying every problem in life has a solution and taking away their lives will only torment their families and friends whom they have left behind.
However our efforts to talk to the institutions management proved futile as the school was conducting a board meeting saying they were not in a position to speak to the press.
