A somber mood has engulfed friends school Kamusinga in Kimilili sub County after a form one student drowned in the school’s swimming pool while practicing for the upcoming competitions together with other students.
Confirming the incident the school principal Edwin Namachanja expressed his condolences to the family of the late Denis Mutiso from Nairobi County saying it was unfortunate that the student had to lose his life as he was one of the best swimmers in the school.
He disclosed that while in the swimming pool the late student’s swimming costume was about to get off and in the process he tried to pull it on but unfortunately chocked causing him to submerge at the deep end of the pool as the swimming pool attendant dived in immediately to try and save him.
“The boy was immediately rushed to the Kimilili sub district hospital for medication but was pronounced dead by the doctors.” he said
The body was later taken to Dreamland hospital mortuary where it is preserved.
Mr. Namachanja said the student was good at swimming and had even been elected the chairman of the form ones in swimming lessons terming the death untimely.
The principal said they have informed other stakeholders about the unfortunate incident including the parents.
He further disclosed that they have offered guiding and counseling lessons to other students of the school to help them cope with the situation in the school.
Bungoma county education director Charles Anyika who visited the school also expressed his condolences to the family saying it is unfortunate that the student had to die at such a tender age a few weeks after joining the institution.
He added that having been a good swimmer, the student’s future was bright but it is sad that his life had to end that way saying he was saddened by the news of the student’s death.
Kimilili deputy OCPD Peter Chesire said they have launched an investigation into the matter to ascertain the real cause of the student’s death.
