A student from Moi University stabbed his colleague to death on Monday night over what police suspect was a love triangle.
Dickson Sirengo, a first year student, stabbed Steve Wairimu, a fourth year student, several times with a kitchen knife at Pioneer Roma on the outskirts of Eldoret.
Steve Wairimu, a hotel and hospitality management student at the university’s Eldoret town campus had visited his girlfriend on Monday evening but found her with another man, a first-year student at the same university.
The incident happened inside the hostel room of Faith Bwire, a first year student.
According to Eldoret South OCPD Isa Manja, the deceased was in a relationship with Faith and he had gone to visit her in the hostel around 9 p.m while drunk and found Dickson and Faith having a conversation while seated on the bed something that angered him and started shouting.
When Steve realized things were not good he decided to respond by also tearing Dickson’s shirt Dickson then went to the kitchen area, got hold of a kitchen knife, turned around and stabbed Steve eight times.
Some students who live around started shouting which scared him then he tried to run away but was caught by guards near the River Sossion Bridge.
Steve died as officials of the student council and the hostel management rushed him to hospital
The deceased sustained multiple stab wounds.
