Wetangula woos support from Western Kenya
Bungoma Senator Moses Masika Wetangula has called upon people from Western Kenya to join hands in support of his presidential bid ahead of the 2017 August general election saying he is capable of transforming the country.
Addressing mourners at the funeral of the late Keziah Omari Simiyu in Matili village wife to David Simiyu Mwangale Wetangula said his quest to vie for the top seat in the country is unstoppable saying his party Ford Kenya has been able to produce a vice president as well as been an official opposition party in the country.
He said the only suitable position for his now is to vie for the presidency of the country saying for his ambitions to be uplifted he has to have enough support from his home turf saying the residents of western Kenya must be able to acquire identity cards and be registered as voters.
He said as a politician you have to move from the known to the unknown saying he had to launch his presidential bid at Masinde Muliro gardens saying even in the united states of America the presidents launched their campaigns in their backyards.
“In America president Obama launched in Illinois, Bill Clinton in New York as well as George Bush in Texas and mine was at Muliro gardens which is in order” he said
Raila will only see my support bus before he surrenders to support me as the flag bearer of the cord coalition hence it will solely depend on the people of Western Kenya who have to ensure they register in large numbers as voters ahead of the next general election.
He disclosed that a population of 350 thousand people who registered did not vote during the last general election saying currently out of 265 thousand eligible voters of who acquired after the last general election only 50 thousand people have registered as voters saying the trend is worrying.
Wetangula who is also the minority leader in the senate criticized the Jubilee government for issues of corruption saying the scandals have affected service delivery to ordinary citizens at the grass root level despite being loyal tax payers.
Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and his Kimilili counterpart Suleiman Murunga pledged to continue supporting the senator’s presidential bid saying as a party leader and a senior politician he is best suited to lead the country as the president.
On her part nominated senator Christine Mukite urged the County government to improve on services in hospitals saying many patients are dying due to lack of better services in the available hospitals and do not have funds to access better services in big hospitals.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who was a classmate to the widower David Simiyu send his message of condolences to the family calling upon them to be strong.
