A suspected member of a criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents of Teso North Sub County and its environs is fighting for his life at Bungoma County referral hospital after he was shot by police officers at his hideout in Kengátuny village, Amagoro division.
Teso North Police Commander, David Muange said police acting on a tip off from members of the public, camped outside the suspect’s hideout for one week before he was shot after he defied orders to stop.
Muange said Jairus Ebong’ was shot when he resisted arrest and tried to run away at around 3am on Tuesday morning.
He was taken to Kocholya sub county referral, before he was referred to Bungoma County referral hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Medics at the hospital say the suspect’s spleen was ruptured but is in a stable condition, adding that he requires blood transfusion.
He is suspected to be a member of a gang that raped and later murdered a middle aged woman at Koteko area two weeks ago before brutally murdering a night watchman at Arizona bar the same night where they stole TV sets, alcoholic drinks and money.
The gang was later in the same night captured on CCTV camera breaking into the Administration Office of St. Joseph’s Kocholya High school where they stole a television set.
Police say the suspect will assist in disclosing his accomplices before charges are preferred.
