A suspected thief was attacked and burnt beyond recognition at Namunyiri in sub location, Likuyani Sub County.
The deceased is said to be a member of a hardcore criminals gang that have been terrorizing members of the public in the neighbouring Musemwa sub location.
It’s alleged that after committing crimes in Musemwa the suspect usually ran and hid in Namunyiri where he could spend several days until the situation cools before he could go back to his home.
However after establishing his hideout, angry residents stormed it where they managed to catch him before descending upon him with all sort of crude weapons.
Later the angry mob took old motor vehicle tyers and petrol and set him ablaze burning him beyond recognition.
The suspect was accused of breaking into the residents’ houses and stealing their property although he was not found with any stolen item.
The remains were removed from the scene by police officers from Matunda station and taken to Kitale mortuary as investigation into the incident was launched.
Confirming the incident Namunyiri sub location assistant Chief Caroline Vugutsa Olusala warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands.
She urged them to hand over all suspects to police officers for an appropriate action to be taken against them.
