A suspected motorbike thief drowned after plunging himself in Kipkaren River while running from an angry mob who were baying for his blood at Igina village, Lumakanda location in Lugari sub county.
Confirming the incident, Munyuki sub location assistant Chief Celestine Shatuma Asige said the suspect, Silas Madanji alias Martin Nyando, was found with spare parts of a motorbike that was stolen near Lugari Diploma Teacher’s College few days ago. She said sensing danger after the angry mob stormed their compound at Igina village the suspect fled and ran towards the swollen river as the mob chased after him before he jumped into the river.
She said his efforts to swim across to the neighbouring Musembe sub location were futile as he was overwhelmed by the water and drowned. The local administrator said a team of divers from icare school of First Aid have commenced the search for the body as police from Lumakanda station launch investigations into the incident.
