A suspected thief was on Tuesday lynched by an angry mob for allegedly stealing timbers in Lusweti village, Soy sub location, Likuyani Sub County.
Confirming the incident, Soy sub location assistant chief Bonventure Lugado said the deceased Joseph Nyikuri was found stealing timber in a neighbour’s compound before the angry mob descended upon him with all manner of crude weapons, seriously injuring him.
He was later rescued by good samaritans and rushed to Lumino dispensary where he was treated and discharged but later succumbed at about 4pm while at home.
The administrator has warned residents against the taking law into their hands but report all suspects to the authorities for them to be arrested and legal action taken against them.
“I warn anybody against contravening the law and also taking the law into their hands. A suspect should not be killed but be reported to the police so that they can be arrested and charged in court of law,” said Lugado.
The body was removed by officers from Nangili police station and taken to Kitale mortuary as they launched investigations into the incident.
