The leadership tussle in the Tachoni community has gone a notch higher after a splinter group inaugurated a new leadership under the chairmanship of Sitati Lichuma. Lichuma has insisted that he is the bonafide leader, noting that the faction led by Laisikwa sse Wekesa was ousted after failing to champion for the community’s needs.
In his inauguration speech at his home in Mikuva Village, Mihuu ward in Webuye East constituency, Lichuma said he is ready to work with everyone in the Tachoni community, consisting of 38 sub tribes, to make sure they advance economically, politically and development matters. He welcomed the group led by Laisikwa sse Wekesa to join them and work with them as a team to steer the community to the next level. He further appreciated the role he played while he was the chairman.
He has urged all Tachonis to come forward and present their views on pointers that will help him and his leadership identify the needs and development projects that will empower them. The meeting was attended by some leaders from the region, among them three area MCAs; Violet Makhanu of Mihuu ward, Martin Wanyonyi of Ndivisi ward, Ford Kenya nominated MCA Metrine Nangalama and former Ndivisi MCA John Musakali, who applauded the new leadership and pledged to support them.
Ndivisi ward MCA Martin Wanyonyi appealed to the new leadership to embrace mediation and make sure they extend an olive branch to their counterparts and work with them to avoid divisions in the community. He said the group led by sse Wekesa failed because they didn’t work together and weren’t open to dissenting voices. that the former regime tried but failed because of lack working together and avoiding the many leaders and the dissenting voices of other people.
However, the faction led by Laisikwa sse Wekesa has shrugged off the new leadership saying that he remains the chairman of TACUSO. They’ve said Lichuma’s team is playing a publicity game and they shouldn’t conduct any activities on behalf of the Tachoni community. Sse Wekesa said he is still in office till 2022.
