The Teachers Service Commission together with teachers unions held a luncheon to celebrate the Teachers of The Year awards. Among those who were awarded is Dunia Mohamed the widow to the late Mandera teacher who died protecting a Christian early this year. She received a cheque of Kshs. 500,000 in honor of her late husband. The music festival which had 128 entries at the national level this year was also recognized.
The first position in the TOYA awards went to Lucy Wangare from Karatina Girls. Meanwhile, The Principal of the Year award was also given, with Mr. Solomon Koech from Baringo receiving the award from the chair of the TSC Chair Dr. Lydia Nzomo.
There are plans to expand the TSC’s TOYA Awards event in the future, as their importance and vital function in the society was also stressed, while they were being honored.
The Chair Dr. Lydia Nzomo said there is a need to have more teacher in schools since there is a shortage of teachers in the education sector.
