At least ten people sustained serious injuries following a grisly road accident that involved a truck, a bus and a saloon car at Kaburengu trading center along Eldoret-Webuye highway in Matete.
According to eyewitnesses the accident occurred after the brakes of a truck that was ferrying goods from Kenya to a neighbouring country failed while descending the steep Chimoi slope towards Kaburengu junction before hitting the two vehicles.
The heavily loaded truck sped down the slope as the driver struggled to keep it on the road before he lost control after he tried to swerve to avoid ramming into the church bus that had slowed to cross a bump.
It in the process hit a saloon car throwing it several meters from the road before it also hit the Vuyika Deliverance church bus which was turning towards Matete.
The truck then proceeded and crossed Nzoia Bridge to the neighbouring Webuye sub county in Bungoma County before it veered off the road landing in a ditch.
Seven people who were travelling in the saloon car among them the driver, two women and four children sustained serious injuries while the bus driver and three other people on board were injured as the truck driver escaped with minor injuries.
The injured were rescued and rushed to Webuye sub county hospital in the neighbouring Bungoma County.
The incident comes exactly two months after eight people died while 14 sustained injuries after a truck ploughed into business persons at the same center on the 24th August, 2020.
