Ten needy students who had failed to get school fees to join Form One from Maraka ward, Webuye East sub county had every reason to smile after they received Kshs 120,000 from Maraka Foundation to cater for their fees. Addressing principals from three schools that the ten students joined, the Foundation chairman Solomon Wafula Wanyonyi said they chipped in after realizing many students may not be able to join Form One due to lack of fees, even though they performed well and attained the required marks. He also lauded the people who supported the Foundation and urged well wishers from Bungoma County and beyond to join and contribute to the Foundation so that many bright students may benefit.
Maraka MCA Ali Mutoka, who is also the Foundation’s patron said his ward posted good KCPE results and students seeking to join Form One were many, and couldn’t be accommodated in the Bungoma Governor’s scholarship programme nor the ward’s bursary programme therefore the Foundation had to come up and provide much needed assistance. He outlined that no student will benefit from more than one sponsorship programme, whether it’s the Governor’s programme, the CDF or ward kitty, or the Maraka Foundation kitty, and promised that the Foundation will monitor the academic performance of its beneficiaries.
All the ten needy students, appreciated the support they received from the Maraka Foundation and said they’ll work hard in their studies and they’ll repay the favor in the future. The principals of the schools that also benefited from the Foundation-by receiving sanitary towels and bags of maize-Muji, St Paul’s Nzoia, and St. Matthews ACK Webuye lauded the Foundation’s support.
