A sombre mood has engulfed Lunyio village, in Lugari sub county after the body of a man was found floating on River Nzoia. The body was discovered by two men from across Nzoia village, in the neighboring Bungoma County who had gone to bath in the river.
According to Zaddock Wamalwa, he had just finished bathing and when he went to pick his clothes he saw an object being swept by the raging water on the opposite side of the river.
He informed his friend Bernard Wanjala, who had accompanied him, and they observed it carefully, establishing that it was a human body. The two later alerted a certain Mr. Joseph Juma who was on the opposite side of the river.
“We had to lie to him that we had seen a cow swept by the water and we even asked him to try and retrieve it so that we can share its meat,” said Wanjala, adding that they tricked him because they knew if they informed him it was a human body he wouldn’t have gone to look at it.
Later Wamalwa and Wanjala had to cross the river and managed to retrieve the body before alerting police.
The residents could not identify the body and have appealed to anyone who has lost his male relative or friend to contact police and help in identifying it.
