The Catholic Conference of Bishops is urging the Judiciary to hasten the process of resolving and ruling on petition cases that shall be presented to them within a period of 100 days.
Speaking after conducting a Sunday mass at Shikoti Catholic church in Lurambi constituency, Kakamega Diocese Bishop Joseph Obanyi who read the speech of the chairman of Catholic Bishops Conference, Martin Kivuva, Bishop Obanyi has said that it is the role of the Judiciary as stated in the national anthem to ensure justice is our shield and defender.
“Just as enshrined in our national anthem, the judiciary should be at the front of ensuring every citizen gets justice,” said Bishop Obanyi.
The Catholic Bishops Conference now wants the Judiciary to put measures in place to ensure election petition cases are heard and determined within a framework of 100 days.
“This move will help in maintaining peace ahead of the elections and also fast track development among residents.” He added.
Bishop Obanyi has also called on the church and the media to remain neutral in the election period to help in delivering a peaceful transition.
The Kakamega Diocese Bishop also took the opportunity to ask Kenyan citizens to shun away from any candidate whose manifesto has no moral teachings and ethics in our society.
“There is no single day drugs have had a good side or any advantage in the society, our teenagers have suffered in our community due to exposure of drugs,” advised Bishop Obanyi.
