“He knows nothing, and he thinks he knows everything. That points clearly to a political career” George Bernard Shaw 1856-1950 – Winner of Nobel Prize in Literature, Irish Writer.
The politics of 2022 meshed with the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2020 is now the rage, the daily fodder in the social political discourse of Kenya and our Counties of KakamegaBungoma, Busia, Vihiga and neighbouring Trans Nzoia County.
The political class are in a state of extreme excitement as they imagine, plot, dream, pursue the prize offerings in elective seats soon to be expanded with the BBI referendum. Hey will be spoiled for choice
The political class has already cast a spell, intoxicated the electorate with grand promises that BBI is the panacea of the electorates perennial, poverty manifested in a myriad of deprivations in health, malnutrition, degrading housing, compounded with the ravages of ignorance and disease.
West Media can state without any fear of contradiction that BBI will not, repeat will not be the panacea of the Nation of Kenyachallenges and the Counties of the former Western Province’s biting challenges but may very well compound them or it will at best be a pain killer and an exercise in confusing, befuddling the peoples appreciation of their true condition as the political elite entrenches its parasitism on the Nation’s Tax resources for their personal aggrandizement, comfort, waste of those resources in the name of governance.
West Media states that what is required in our region and our Nation is to name what is flawed in the most simple words and basic list of not more than ten items and identify how to fix what is wrong to banish poverty that dehumanizes too many of our noble people. Poverty is the worst violence any National Government, County Government can preside over, perpetuate, countenance against its people but tragically that is what has been the state of affairs inour Nation our region since independence in 1963 and there is no likelihood of that state of affairs changing in the next several decades.
There is nothing new about poverty, what is new, however is that we have the resources to get rid of it but those resources continue to be plundered, wasted, misapplied be the theatre of corruption by the elected leaders and the public servants at the National and County Governments levels and which group of Kenyans number less than 5% of the population of Kenya(that about 2,500,000 Kenyans) eating all our resources asthe 44,500,000 Million of us stew in lack of opportunities, poverty, want.
The perennial question, challenge is how shall those who are the problem (the elected leaders and public servants) be the solution to the problem. The electorate, the people are in a quandary. The search for the solution to our problems require new thinking, new strategies but not from the problem itself.
As 2021 wears on, the narrative of our politics continues to hark back to the one party dictatorship days. There are difficult days, months, years ahead for project Kenya and project the Counties of the former Western Province of Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia County. The challenge is whether we shall we get men and women of honesty, integrity, drive, vision and the determination to fix this floundering project Kenya, project the Counties of the former Western Province.
Political excitement, hypocrisy, double speak, self seeking, cannot unbundle a working, fixed Project Kenya, Project the Counties of the former Western Province. That will be and will remain a mirage, an illusion.
