The late retired President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi has finally been laid to rest at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County. The body of the late Mzee Moi was buried next to the late Lena Moi,according to his predetermined wishes. Family, friends and leaders gathered at Kabarak University grounds for the funeral service, with leaders and family eulogizing the retired President, not only as a tough, visionary leader but also as a great human.
Family members, led by Raymond Moi and Gideon Moi painted the picture of a caring father, and a family man. Gideon Moi thanked all who supported the family when Mzee was ailing and noted that he had experienced a tough four months of going home late in the night until Mzee Moi’s demise last week on Tuesday, given that he had to spend morning and evening hours by his side everyday. Mzee Moi’s children were also given Bibles as per his last wish before he passed away.

President Uhuru Kenyatta remembered Mzee as a leader who had a forgiving heart and a tough demeanor when he needed to. He acknowledged the late Moi as a father who guided him in the murky political waters. On his part, Deputy President William Ruto said Mzee Moi taught the leaders to futility of hatred, noting that hatred is a burden and tribalism is stupidity.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga admitted that they had their differences but the issues between him and Mzee were resolved. He termed the late as a nationalist who played a key role among a clique of leaders to ensure Kenya independently stable. Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka urged Kenyans to move on and instead of mourning the late Moi, celebrate him. The role he played nurturing other senior politicians was also highlighted by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, who said other leaders owe the late Mzee the debt of keeping the country united.
