The late Ken Walibora Waliaula has been laid to rest at his home at Huruma in Cherangany sub county, Trans Nzoia County. The funeral, which was led by the Jehovah Witness church leaders took less than an hour as the Covid-19 directives were observed. The family of the renowned scholar and journalist have called for speedy investigations to unearth what really led to his death.
According to initial police reports, the late Walibora was hit by a matatu on Landhies road in Nairobi on 10th April, a Friday. His body was later found at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary around four days later after a search undertaken by family members. However, the case has taken a twist after it emerged he may have been attacked, with deep knife cuts found on his body after an autopsy was done.
The family, led by his brother Patrick Lumumba and John Wekesa Wasike have petitioned the government to undertake thorough investigations on the late Walibora’s demise, “Our brother wasn’t sick. He met his death under unclear circumstances and we want the government to investigate who killed Ken and why,” said Lumumba.
They both eulogized the late Walibora as a person who always wanted his siblings to succeed and provided all the necessary amenities they needed, and also chipped in with their education path by taking them to school.
Kiswahili scholars led by former UASU Chairman Professor Sammy Okubasu said Walibora had enabled the Swahili language ascend to great heights. Hezekiel Gikambi and Kibabii University VC Odeo Ipara said he was a great scholar and Gikambi noted that academic fraternity has lost a great mind whose scholarly work will remain ideal for generations.
