The government has been urged to find an alternative way to reduce the current high cost of living following the eight percent increase in fuel products to sixteen percent in the 2023 financial act
According to Julius Masinde who was a candidate for the Senate seat in Bungoma county in the 2022 general elections while on West TV during a Staftahi show, the rise of price of oil products has led to increased prices for all commodities adding that fuel is the core product hence its price increase has caused increase in living standards.
“It is the government that proposed an increase in fuel products from eight percent to sixteen percent in the 2023 financial act rising the price of basic commodities and there is need to the government to relook at the eight percent increase.’’ Said Masinde
He has emphasized on the need for the government and all elected leaders to fulfill the promises they made to the citizens during campaigns towards the general elections.
“Though a leader may not be able to fulfill to a hundred percent the agenda they promised during the campaign but there is need for them to fulfill the promises including lowering the cost of living a promise made by the government,” he added
However, he urged farmers not to sell their produce at throw away prices rather store it for food security purposes.
“We as Kenyans have been through tough times due to increased food prices especially maize flour therefore during this harvesting period we should not sell our maize at a throw away price instead store it,” he said
