A suspected thief from Elukala village, Buchifi sub location Mumias West Constituency was attacked by an angry mob when he was caught stealing sheep in Emukhweso village.
Confirming the incident, Joshua Adua Buchifi, the sub location chief, said that Vincent Akhombe was found untying sheep, and he tried to flee when he saw the owner of the sheep. The residents pursued him and inflicted serious injuries to him.
“Vincent Akhombe, the suspect, was found in Mary Murunga’s home stealing sheep and was beaten by the mob. We received the report when we were in the office. The assistant chief, village elder and I went to the scene to try and save him but it was too late,” stated the chief, adding that the suspect died on the way to the hospital.
Chief Adua cited that the deceased had a record of stealing, given that he had been found previously in different places doing the same.
“This man has heard a record of theft, there was a time he stole in Imanga village and he was almost killed, he again stole in Buchifi village and the case was brought to the office and was solved,” said Adua.
He, therefore, urged parents to be on the front line to educate and guide their children on the dangers of theft. He added that nowadays when residents stumble on a thief they don’t wait for the administration i.e. the chief, police or anybody else in authority, instead they just kill him or her.
