A gang of robbers terrorized Mugunga village in Mwamba sub location, Lugari Sub County on Wednesday night leaving three people with serious injuries.
Confirming the incident, Lugari Sub County Police Commander Patrick Maundu said the gang of six men armed with crude weapons invaded the village few minutes past midnight where they attacked Mr. Kelvin Onyango with a machete leaving him with serious cuts on the head before robbing him his mobile phone.
Later the gang proceeded to the home of Mary Masitsa where they attacked her with a rungu and hit her jaw, breaking her four teeth. They also hit her neck and shoulder causing her serious injuries.
The police boss said during the commotions, Masitsa’s son Dancun Babu who heard his mother shouting for help responded to her distress call and he was also attacked by the gang, who hit on the left cheek with a club before robbing Masitsa her mobile phone.
The victims raised an alarm that attracted residents who woke up and managed to nab one of the suspects before they descended on him with all manner of crude weapons threatening to burn him before police arrived and saved him.
The suspect Erick Muganda was later taken to Lumakanda police station as an investigation into the incident was launched before he is arraigned in court where he will be charged with robbery with violence.
Maundu said his officers have launched a manhunt for the five suspects who escaped in the nearby forest promising to ensure the face full wrath of law appealing to area residents to volunteer any lead information that would help arrest the criminals.
