At least three people lost their lives and three others survived in two separate drowning incidents in Busia and Kakamega Counties. In the first incident, an eight year old boy drowned in river Ang’olol at Ng’elechom village in Teso South sub county in Busia County on Thursday last week. The boy was in the company of his two other brothers aged 12 and 15 years who were coming from grazing near Kenya-Uganda border. The two saved their lives by swimming while the slain boy was washed away by the fast-running water of river Ang’olol.
His body was retrieved from the river on Monday several kilometers away from where he drowned.
And in the second incident, two people died after they were washed away by the water currents of river Lairi at Makare village in Matungu sub county, Kakamega County. The duo aged 25 and 32 years were crossing the bridge that links Ogalo market and Makare when they were washed away, “The river had broken its banks and was overflowing on the bridge when the incident occurred,” explained a local. A third person managed to rescue his life by swimming his way out of the river. By the time of publishing this article, only one body and the motorbike had been retrieved from the river.
