Police in Matete are holding in custody a suspected thug who was found deep asleep inside a house he had broken into with intention to steal in Navava village, Lwandeti location.
Confirming the incident Lwandeti sub location assistant Chief Thomas Luvonga said the suspect Moses Wafula Wanjala (25) with his unknown accomplices broke into two houses in the village and stole property worth thousands of shillings.
He said the suspects then moved into a third compound and broke into a house whose owner lives in Nairobi and Wafula gained entry into it.
However, after packing items they had targeted to steal he fell asleep while in the house forcing his friends who were waiting outside to flee the scene leaving him inside.
The suspect was later found in the morning while still in slumber land after a brother to the owner of the house discovered a padlock missing on the door and went to check inside.
After seeing the man inside, he alerted locals who stormed the house armed with all manner of crude weapons and descended upon him before being rescued by the assistant chief who took immediate action and intervened after receiving the information.
It was established that the suspect is a resident of Kuywa sub location, Kuywa location, Mukuyuni Division in Bungoma County.
Efforts by the residents to press him to reveal his accomplices were futile as he refused to name any of them.
The suspect who was found with tools believed to be used in breaking of padlocks and doors was handed to officers from Matete police station that have launched investigations into the incident before arraigning him in court.
