Residents of Musutsu village, Lumakanda location in Lugari sub county were treated to a rude shock following an incident in which an unidentified gang stormed a resident’s home, slaughtered and made away with the tongue of a cow.
Speaking to West Media, Mrs. Diana Afandi said she heard commotion outside at about 2am and when she peeped through the window she couldn’t see her cow, forcing her to get out and look for it before she stumbled upon its carcass just across the fence.
She said the cow which is worth Kshs 70, 000 had been slit at the throat and only the tongue removed leaving the rest of the body at the scene.
“The cow was seven months pregnant and I can’t tell the motive behind this inhumane act,” said Ms. Afandi.
She said the animal was her main source of income with proceeds from milk sales going towards taking care of her family.
The incident attracted tens of area villagers, with most of them unable to comprehend the motive behind it while others linked it to superstitions.
Neighbours led by Mr. Kenneth Ayodi have expressed their disappointment by the incident calling on security organs in Lugari Sub County to launch investigations into the matter as well as beef up night patrols in area.
