Tinderet MP Julius Melly has urged parents in Nandi to train and nurture their children in a good upbringing. He said doing so ensures children are used to a certain way of lifestyle when they are older, quoting the Bible in the process, “Train up a child in the way he or she should go and when he is old, will not depart from it,” he affirmed.
Speaking during the baptism and graduation service of over one hundred youths who were transitioning from Sunday school to junior youths at Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Chemase location, Melly lauded the efforts of the church in bringing up and mentoring young people spiritually. He said the problem of teen pregnancies and bad behaviour among young people has been fueled by negligence and bad parenting, noting that Nandi County has recorded a high number of teen pregnancies this year alone.
He added that parents should ensure kids attain the best possible level of education. He urged the government and other relevant stakeholders to ensure culprits of early teen pregnancies are brought to book.
