Tindiret member of parliament Hon Julius Melly has warned that farmers are likely to incur huge losses if the delay in harvesting of sugarcane is prolonged.
Speaking in his constituency during the commissioning of various government projects, the legislator decried the delay in harvesting of the commodity in his region saying farmers are much likely to encounter huge losses.
Melly cited that if the delay is not addressed amicably, the farmers could count losses thus urged the government to intervene and hear the plight of sugarcane farmers.
He appealed to sugar factories like West Kenya, Chemelil and Kibos among others to consider harvesting the farmers sugarcane as majority depend much on it for a living.
“I want to urge Chemelil, Kibos and West Kenya sugar companies to come to the aid of farmers by ensuring they harvest their sugarcane.” He said.
He revealed that majority of residents in the region depends on sugarcane farming for their basic needs thus delay in harvesting the commodity will make farmers miserably, hence the government should move with speed in tackling the issue.
