Tips on how to guide children during holidays

During holidays children need a lot of care and guidance. When they close schools and get back home some forget about books and start involving themselves in acts that may ruin their learning.

Therefore as a parent during holidays, there is need for you to guide and give proper direction to your child.

Below are some of the tips you can use when guiding and giving proper care to your child during holidays.

Occupy them with domestic work

This will enable them not to be loitering here and there due to idleness which may make them end up in bad peer groups.

Children playing together in a field. Allow your child to play with peers

Have a know-how on their peer group

When your child has friends you should try and know the type of friends they are and what they do. Bad company ruins good morals therefore if you are the type of a parent who cares less about your child’s friends know that your child’s character is at risk.

Assist your child in accomplishing his/ her homework assigned by teachers/ Do revision

Despite giving him/ her domestic work remind and help her / him to do the homework assigned from school this will help in creating a good environment that will enable her not forget what he/ she was taught in school.

Give her / him time to rest

All work without play makes Jack a dull boy. Therefore give your child time to relax and rest after the day’s long work. This will make her / him do her / his things that are constructive as you literally supervise.

Allow her/him to socialize with friends

Every man is a social being. This will help your child live with people and recognize them that in life you need people in your daily endeavors. Here you need to be strict because not all friends are constructive since some could be drug abuse addicts that will ruin the good morals of your child.

Let your child go to church

When it reaches the day to go to church and praise God, give your child time so that she / he can also join others in Sunday school.

Here you need to be observant because many children are being ruined by others especially in schools where they are recruited by their friends and join certain groups that are cults.

When your child comes home for holiday you should not allow him / her transfer from your church and join other church in the name of “my friend said that there is healing and miracles in their church”. Never and don’t allow this happen in any way for it will land your child in problems thereafter.

Your child might challenge you about freedom of worship but never entertain this. Tell him / her how you love and care about him / her and how you feel worshiping together in your church is good to all of you as a family. This will help your child change mind.

Observe your child in all the doings.

This will help you know whether your child has changed or not. Through this you might realize that the dressing code will have changed, walking styles, accent etc. You will also realize that perhaps your child has tattooed or drawn some marks on his/ her body. Don’t hesitate to inquire on the implications of the same.

Dedicate your time for your children

Even if you are busy with your own schedule you have to set aside time to sit, talk and have fun with your children. This will help your child realize that bond of love. Through sharing you will be able to understand likes and dislikes of your child. You will also discover your child’s manner for she / he will be able to open up and tell you which kind of areas perhaps in education that she has a lot of interest and those that she /he is not comfortable with and this will enable you communicate with teachers to remind them on her/ his areas of interest and tackle with the subjects she / he feels that are difficult to handle.

Encourage your child to live positively

In life at times your child might go through certain challenges for instance failing exams, dropping in class work, here you are the first person to appreciate your child and encourage her / him take it positively and know that there is always room for change and can do much better than that.

Talk on sex education.

If your child has attained that age of curiosity never spare talking about sex education for this will enable her / him discover what to do and what not to do.

Never leave this for anyone else to educate your child or rather assume that your child is a grown up so she / he might be knowing this.

Have a happy holiday as you guide your child diligently.
