Tongaren MP Dr. Eseli Simiyu has joined other leaders who are opposed to the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to extend the Building Bridges Initiative task force term.
Speaking in Lugari constituency, Dr. Eseli questioned the move taken by the President terming it ominous.
He said after gathering views from all the 47 Counties the task force proposed a committee of experts be formed to go through the report and steer public participation arguing that the turn of events on the report was shocking.
The lawmaker urged Kenyans to be wary by the move saying there could be an ill motive to derail the process. “If we are careful this process might go up to 2021 before we amend our constitution,” said Eseli.
Declaring his support for the BBI report, Eseli called for the fast tracking of its implementation and enable Kenyans to focus on other matters of national importance.
“We are wasting a lot of time on the BBI report yet Deputy President William Ruto is busy campaigning and selling his policies to Kenyans, if we are not careful it won’t be easy to beat him in 2022 elections so let us finish this issue of BBI and focus on other matters,” said Eseli.
However, the MP called for a powerful Prime Minister position and a parliamentary system of governance saying the PM position proposed in the report was so demeaning.
