Tongaren Member of Parliament elect Dr. John Murumba Chikati has promised to widen bursary schemes to benefit more students who come from poor families, in the quest to ensure access to quality education to all students regardless of their financial background.
In an interview by West Media, Chikati said he has outlined measures to widen bursary schemes to benefit a huge number of students from needy families pay fees. The measures state that whoever benefits from the CDF bursary will not be allowed to get one from MCAs, Governor or Woman Representative.
The measures are meant to ensure all the bursary schemes from Governor, Woman Representative, Member of Parliament and Members of County Assembly are well and widely spread to benefit a good number of students who come from poor families struggling to pay fees.
He however noted that it had come to his attention of unequal distribution of bursary funds where the needy students have not been fully benefiting from the government funds, citing poor allocation of the very funds as needy students struggle to remain in school.
He emphasized on the need to widen bursary schemes where governor’s scholarship would benefit a certain number of students, CDF to benefit different group of students together with MCAs bursary to avoid a scenario where one student benefits from all the bursary schemes as others get none.
Chikati has relentlessly been promising to stabilize education sector by ensuring students from Tongaren have access to quality education, further pledging to create more job opportunities to benefit the youths struggling to get jobs.
